Xiù Qiú (Hydrangea) is more than a name; it’s a narrative of connection. In Chinese culture, it evokes the ancient tradition of tossing a silk ball to find a partner, symbolizing a fated encounter. This noodle house is designed as a vessel for such connections, a concept embodied in its signature dish: a single red noodle hidden amongst a bowl of white ones. Tasked with transforming a 40-year-old former children's art studio, the design approach was not to erase its history but to celebrate its imperfections. The building’s aged character and leaky walls were not seen as flaws but as a canvas.
