Nahata Haveli — Sardarsheher, Rajasthan, India A 200-year-old Shekhawati merchant residence, transformed into a living family home through rigorous conservation. No steel, no cement — only lime mortar, stone stitching, and traditional fresco craft. Six to eight months of lime curing. Craftsmen trained in near-extinct techniques. The courtyard, fountain, and frescoes remain the emotional center; every modern intervention — five bedrooms, a gallery, full services — steps back in deference to 200 years of cultural memory. Restoration as restraint. Heritage as habitat.
